Testimonials

"Every young person at NGC needs some kind of support, whether that's academically, socially, emotionally or financially. And that makes it such an accepting place where you can ask for help when you need it. The classroom teacher is able to approach you about what you're working on and there are also teachers aides on hand to give you that extra support."

"Here, the teachers take it slower so you can really learn and they try their best to explain it in a bunch of ways so you understand. And at the same time, if you finish and need more challenging, they give that to you as well. The teachers push you to achieve to your limits and finish your work, but there's not all this unnecessary pressure."

"If you've struggled with not fitting in at a mainstream school or dealt with anxiety, I want to assure you it can get better. I want people to know that they can decide to make different choices, explore non-mainstream options and talk to a counsellor. It might really change - and save - their life."

"When I came here, I much preferred the learning environment; there's always a practical component to everything they teach at NGC. You can work more closely with the teachers, in smaller classes where you get more attention. That really works for me."

"I liked the smaller class sizes because you could easily ask questions. The way they broke up the day with excursions and hands-on activities made it easier to stay focused. Most of all, the teachers and support staff were doing their best to help you learn. It always felt like they really wanted you to achieve your goals and were cheering you on."

"I've realised that there are heaps more pathways to get employed. You don't have to just wear a suit or have perfect spelling. You don't have to fit the mould, but you can still go places. I would tell anyone to come to NGC. Get a trade and get a plan for life outside school."

“Coming to NGC was the first time I ever got to work with a teacher’s aide. When I get things explained to me clearly and I can get help when I need it, I’m able to buckle down and focus. But we’re also always doing different things and you get rewarded for completing your tasks. That really works for me.”

"Everyone really knows each other and I made friends so quickly. It’s more like a family, you just feel accepted. You can also get that personal help whenever you’re struggling. I think there’s really good structure around what we do everyday and a rewards system for getting work done which is motivating.”

"People here are always going to support you; even if you don’t know each other really well, they still always have your back. To anyone considering NGC, I would say just do it because it’s an absolutely amazing school."

“At NGC, it’s so different to mainstream; I felt relaxed straight away. They teach you one-on-one so much more and the classes are way smaller which helps you concentrate. There is so much support from the teachers."

“At NGC, the classes are smaller and teachers can get around to helping you. And if you’re having trouble with life, they can support you with that too. Everyone is always there for you if you need it.”

“You really feel like you can talk to the teachers here and feel sure that they will be non-judgemental. At NG Central, most people have been through similar stuff to you and so I feel I have more in common with other students."

"I passed Year 12, gained a Certificate in Engineering, tackled sobriety and won, taken care of my mental health and gained confidence. I’m slowly getting closer to the goals I set while at NGC."

"Our vocational classes are a lot different from mainstream stuff, they’ll let you pick what you want to work on and I love having my own independent projects."

“It feels so comfortable here, like one big family. The teachers make every subject interesting and there’s always something to look forward to in class. It feels like content that we can actually use in real life."

“You get a lot of support - it’s like a mob, a family. People always ask how you’re going and I’ve made lots of new mates. The classes are way smaller which means I can concentrate better."

“I never thought I’d make it to Year 12, I thought I was going to leave in Year 10. But at NGC, it became achievable and way easier to get the help I needed. I’m proud I did it."

"Finishing school feels like the end of an era. I have been at NG Central since Year 9.

I’m proud that I have finished and that I sat my HSC exams."
